Barnstead Parks And Recreation Summer Concert Series

On Saturday, August 19 please join Barnstead Parks and Recreation in welcoming Mark Huzar’s Roots Society, to the concert stage.  Come witness the debut of our friend Mark’s newest musical project.  Currently a trio, the band features Mark Huzar on vocals and guitar, Carleton Page on guitar, mandolin and banjo, and Ryan Barrett on percussion.  This evening’s performance promises to bring a pleasing mix of blues, country, roots, bluegrass and classic music, along with Mark’s original songs.  Mark and Carleton met in the late 90s when both worked for Daddy’s Junky Music in Manchester.  Mark and Ryan played together in the early days of Tore Down House.

The PMHS Music Boosters will be on hand offering concessions as a fundraiser for their upcoming trip to Disney, where the band will be a part of the big parade.  Remember to bring a lawn chair or blanket and a friend or three or five.  As always, smoking and alcohol are prohibited on the Parade Grounds.  Come enjoy this free event and show your support for local music!  This not-to-be-missed show starts at 6:00 pm.

SNAP Benefits Accepted At Barnstead Farmers Market

The Barnstead Farmers Market accepts SNAP Benefits! Recognizing that food nutrition is vital to everyone especially those who are eligible for the SNAP Program, our farmers market applied for and received a grant to accept the EBT card used for SNAP Benefits.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides benefits to low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities. SNAP is the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net. The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) works with state agencies, nutrition educators, and neighborhood and faith-based organizations to ensure that those eligible for nutrition assistance can make informed decisions about applying for the program and can access benefits.

Our market is full with locally grown vegetables, homemade sauces, jams and jellies and so much more to offer our SNAP customers. Please visit the market located on the corner of Rte 28 and Maple Street in Barnstead. For more information, please visit www.barnsteadfarmersmarket.club or contact Lori Mahar at 603-269-2329 or [email protected]. We look forward to serving you.

Barnstead Old Home Day
Submitted By Kathy Kelley

Are you ready for a great day full of fun, entertainment and food? The Barnstead Old Home Day Committee has been working very hard to make that happen! Please put September 9 on your calendar from 9-3 to be at the Barnstead Elementary School for a great celebration of our town and our people.

We’ll be starting off with a trained dog demonstration, then a chance to give line dancing a try, a LARGE parade at 11 (There’s still time to let us know if your group wants to march or enter a float!), a presentation to honor our veterans, kids’ bike parade, Motion Man, antique and specialty car show with a prize for people’s choice, Citizen of the Year will be announced and the entertainment will be rounded out by an open mic with Barnstead’s own Chris Bonoli.

On top of that, there will be games, miniature horses, bouncy houses, face painting, a touch-a-truck event and free balloons! There will be vendors where you can peruse such things as crocheted animals, beauty products, alpaca items, Tupperware, wood crafts and lots of FOOD. Our local farmer’s market vendors will be joining us on the school grounds so you can see everything at the same site.  No charge for entry or parking.  It’s a free day to come out and enjoy our town together!

Buy tickets to get in on the raffles for a 50/50 or better yet, the incredible, personalized quilt that has been lovingly made and generously donated by Eileen Murley, customized just for the Old Home Day theme of “Putting Barnstead on the Map.”

If you’re a non-profit or community organization, we welcome you to make a float or march in the parade, as well as have a free spot to introduce yourselves to the community.  We already have the Barnstead Community Grange, the Oscar Foss Memorial Library, Revolution United Soccer, the Center Barnstead Christian Church as well as our wonderful Barnstead Historical Society signed up! For you photographers, there will be a “Beautiful Barnstead Photo Contest” sponsored by the Barnstead Community Grange.   The Police Department, the Fire Department, and the Highway Departments will also be coming with some surprises of their own.

We’ve had great support from our Board of Selectmen as well as all the town employees as we’ve worked to put the day together. A special thanks to Jeannie Terry who has assisted us with taking in all the vendor applications and keeping the account straight.

Be watching for more information each week as the day approaches.  Can’t wait to see you there!
