Letter To The Editor
Congratulations are in order to Jack Kelleher for penning a superb
letter to the editor in the Christmas Eve edition of the Sun. I agree
that it is of the utmost importance that people need to re-evaluate
their philosophies toward this great country, or it will be lost for
good. A good way to start this process would be for everyone to read
the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Next, do some
unbiased and diligent fact checking of what you hear from the news, our
locally elected officials, and particularly what comes out of Washington
D.C.
American’s philosophy needs to be based on facts and history, rather
than emotions or desires. Letting any organization, political party, or
a group of peers dictate your thoughts and beliefs is a costly mistake.
Mr. Kelleher said it best by stating, “Philosophical ideals have a way
of becoming reality”. That is where we are today. We, as Americans,
need to inform ourselves so we can make intelligent choices every time
we enter a voting booth, which needs to be at every election we can vote
in. Additionally, once elected, our public servants need to be held
accountable for their actions in office. If an elected official does
not stand by their campaign promises, they need to be made aware of
their wrongdoings by the very people they serve. If their poor behavior
warrants it, they should be removed from office.
