The Barnstead Farmers and Gardeners Network

Submitted By Don Walker, Co-founder

The Barnstead Farmers and Gardeners Network want to extend our sincere thanks to Governor Maggie Hassan and her staff for their generous support for New Hampshire’s family farms.

Working with the Governor’s staff, we were able to establish July 26, 2014, as Family Farm Day in the state of New Hampshire. This year’s Barnstead Open Farm Day celebrated more than our unique community; it celebrated the hard work and dedication of all family farms in New Hampshire, and throughout our great nation.

Family farmers are truly the salt of the earth. This proclamation is for you!

A Proclamation

FAMILY FARM DAY

July 26, 2014

Whereas, Family farms have traditionally been the cornerstone of our state as they contribute to the good health and economic vitality of the community, as well as provide enrichment to the lives of all who visit them; and

Whereas, Family farms produce a diverse variety of goods that range from alpaca fleece to fruits grown in New Hampshire’s orchards; and

Whereas, Family farms are the primary source of products that support such movements as farm-to-consumer, farm-to-restaurant, and farm-to-school; and

Whereas, Family farms are essential to the local food movement as they provide fresh produce and other goods to many communities and seasonal visitors;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARGARET WOOD HASSAN, GOVERNOR of the State of New Hampshire, do hereby proclaim July 26, 2014, as FAMILY FARM DAY in the State of New Hampshire and encourage all residents to enjoy the bounty of their local, family farm and acknowledge its contribution to the health, recreation, culture and history of the Granite State.

Signed,

Margaret Wood Hassan, Governor

THANK YOU GOVERNOR!

Everyone is welcome to join in a celebration of community spirit as we gather together on the Barnstead Parade Grounds on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. and concluding around 2:00 p.m., friends will encounter a variety of local crafters, vendors and organizations ready to share their wares. Some of the presenters will be veterans of our celebration while some will be first-timers.

A few of the people returning are: Lil Miss Witt and her steam engine friends, Horseshoe Tournament, Vicki Bloom with crocheted animals and bags, Deb Foss with her garden decorations, Abil Brittan with her face painting, Earl B. Clark American Legion display, and the Barnstead Historical Society display. The Corinthian Lodge will once again serve lunch.
