Oscar Foss Memorial Library News
Celebrate
National Library Week April 13-19
Oscar Foss
Memorial Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities
nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the
value of libraries, librarians and library workers.
Libraries
today are more than repositories for books and other resources. Often
the heart of their communities, campuses or schools, libraries are
deeply committed to the places where their patrons live, work and study.
Libraries are trusted places where everyone in the community can gather
to reconnect and reengage with each other to enrich and shape the
community and to address local issues.
Librarians
work with elected officials, small business owners, students and the
public at large to discover what their communities needs are and meet
them. Whether through offering e-books and technology classes,
materials for English-language learners, programs for job seekers or
those to support early literacy, librarians listen to the community they
serve, and they respond.
First
sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance
sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across
the country each April.
The Oscar
Foss Memorial Library serves Barnstead by providing books, magazines,
audiobooks, dvds, cultural and social activities, online reference
databases, children’s programs and much more.
Come to the
library and join us as we celebrate National Library Week. There will be
balloons and a raffle for a free book just for visiting! You can also
show off your love of literature by posting a picture of yourself
reading on our Facebook page. For an exciting end to our week of
celebrating, Clifford the Big Red Dog will be at the library on
Saturday, April 19th from 9:30-11:00. Become a part of the story while
visiting and taking pictures with Clifford.

Remember
When The Blackbirds Come
by G.
Malcolm Locke
Did you
ever learn to say a prayer
When the
blackbirds came back
From only
the Lord knows where?
Did you
finally learn from Dad
That their
arrival was a time to be glad?
Time to say
a well meant prayer
And thank
God the family is all there.
But little
did you know, that in the years to come,
Your whole
family would leave you, one by one.
But still,
we must remember
To always
pray, when spring brings
The
blackbirds back our way.
CHILD FIND
Barnstead
School District
In an
effort to comply with State and Federal Laws governing special
education, to maintain eligibility for Federal Funding, to engage in
sound long range planning and to provide evaluation and programming
where appropriate, the Barnstead School District is making a
conscientious effort to identify any potentially disabled individuals
residing within its jurisdiction.
Parents of
children up to 21 years of age who suspect that a child may be
educationally disabled, are invited to contact their special education
director. Assessments will be performed to determine if children qualify
for special education programs and services. Areas to be screened will
include hearing, vision, communication and motor functioning.
For further
information, parents should contact their local school and ask to speak
to the Special Education Director: Misty Lowe, Barnstead Elementary
School, 269-5161.
