Letter To The Editor
To the
Editor:
There are
critically serious problems with management of the Town of Barnstead and
its town departments. The Barnstead Board of Selectmen have been
exerting a totally unreasonable level of micro-management on department
heads in three of the most critical departments: Fire Rescue, Highway
Department, and Police Department.
Because of
the actions of the Board of Selectmen, our town now has no department
heads for three of its most important departments. And, there is no
apparent plan to rectify this appalling situation.
The Board
of Selectmen dismissed Chris Carazzo, the road agent duly elected by the
voters of our town in 2011. Mr. Carazzo is legally challenging what he
believes was an unlawful dismissal.
After
struggling with the Board of Selectmen over the operation of his
department and the hiring of his officers, police chief Ken Borgia chose
to retire as of December 31, 2013. The town now has only one full-time
officer and three part-time officers.
Fire chief
Mark Tetrault was hired 2010 as the first full-time fire chief. After a
disappointingly short period of time, the Selectmen began to exert the
same level of unreasonable micro-management on the fire chief that they
were applying to the road agent and the police chief. So, the fire
chief is also retiring effective February 1, 2014.
We will now
have no department heads as a result of very misguided personal agendas
by members of the Board of Selectmen.
The
citizens of the town of Barnstead need to know what is going on, and how
damaging are the actions of the Board of Selectmen. Residents need to
insist that the Selectboard re-establish proper administration of these
critical town departments. Voters need to be informed when they cast
their votes in the March election and town meeting.

Committee On Wednesday January 8
The next
monthly meeting of the Belknap County Republican Committee will be held
on Wednesday January 8 at 6:30 pm at the Top of the Town Restaurant, 88
Ladd Hill Rd in Belmont.
This
month’s guest speaker, NH GOP Chairman Jennifer Horn, will be discussing
the Party’s renewed focus on grass roots initiatives nationally and here
in New Hampshire, and the need for party unity in an effort to elect
Republicans in 2014 and 2016.
In
addition, the Republican candidates for the District 1 Executive Council
seat of the late Ray Burton, have once again been invited to attend this
meeting.
Belknap
County GOP meetings are open to ALL Republicans and like-minded
independents. Per their usual meeting format, if you’re interested in
having dinner (at your option) or wish to socialize before the meeting,
plan to arrive as early as 5:00 pm.
Once again,
in an effort to help those in the community who are less fortunate, the
