The Gathering On The Green
The
Barnstead Parade Congregational Church missions will be sponsoring The
Gathering On The Green at the Parade Grounds on Saturday, August 24,
2013. We are looking for crafters, yard sale vendors, and displays. If
you are interested in joining us, Please call Jeannie at 269-5441 for
more information.
The
Barnstead Historical Society will be meeting at the Barnstead Town Hall
on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 6 pm for a pot luck supper. This will be
followed by a meeting at 7 pm. If you could bring an old family recipe
with a little history of who it belonged to or an old cooking utensil to
display, or anything else of interest to show, we would appreciate
looking at. We hope you will come and join us and keep history alive in
Barnstead.

Nighthawk Hollow Seniors News

The
Nighthawk Hollow Seniors of Barnstead met at 12 noon on June 5, 2013 at
the Barnstead Town Hall and enjoyed a pot luck luncheon. Librarian,
Sharon Archambault from the Oscar Foss Memorial Library, spoke briefly
about library services and up-coming programs; the Adult Relax and Read
program this summer and a two session cooking program in October, which
sounded appealing. Check them out!
The 50/50
raffle was won by Freida Simonds.
Our next
meeting will be held on September 4 at 12 noon with a pot luck luncheon,
business meeting and bingo games.
With the
exception of July and August, we meet the first Wednesday of the month.
Dues are only $4.00 a year and men and women enjoy our delicious,
interesting, entertaining, and fun-filled meetings. For more

Read At The Oscar Foss Memorial Library
Stop by the
library and sign up for the Adult “Relax and Read” Summer Reading
Program. Each time you finish reading a book your name is entered into a
raffle for one of several relaxing prizes. Read 3 books and you

“Read To
Me” Program At Barnstead Library
The Oscar
Foss Memorial Library invites Barnstead families with preschool age
children to sign up for our “Read to Me - Dig Into Reading!” Summer
Reading Program. Adults are asked to record the books that they read
aloud with their child. Each week children will receive a small prize
and a raffle ticket when their books are recorded on their log at the
library.
In August,
at the end of the program, we will be raffling off some surprises! Our
“Summertime Songs and Stories” and “Arts and Crafts” programs will be
held every Wednesday from 10 am-12 and are free and open to the public.
We are
starting our summer program this year with an awesome “Art Mural”
Kick-Off on June 27th, 6-8pm. Call or stop by the library for more
information about this fun event!

Parks And Rec Summer Concert Series
Features Children’s
Artist
Please join
us this Saturday at 6:00 pm at the Barnstead Parade Grounds when Parks
and Rec welcomes award winning children’s artist Wayne Potash to the
summer concert stage. Wayne’s music brings an upbeat message with
rhythms and melodies perfect for singing along with and dancing to. One
of the top children’s performers in New England, Wayne brings both his
solo show and his Music Fun Band to dozens of Boston area events each
year, his music movement program is featured at numerous Boston area
schools, and he even hosts his own music TV show for children on a local
Boston cable station. Families, adults and children of all ages are sure
to enjoy this one of a kind show.
Remember to
bring your own lawn chair or blanket and a friend or two. As always,
smoking and alcohol are prohibited on the Parade Grounds. We hope to see
you there.
Sunday
School Closing Program
Come and
bring your family! The Center Barnstead Christian Church is having its
closing program for our regular Sunday School year on Sunday, June 30th.
You are welcome to come and see all that we have learned. Each class
will be doing a special presentation.
This
closing program will begin at 9:00 AM with our Morning Service to follow
at 10:00 AM. Afterwards, a picnic lunch and softball game will be held
at the baseball field. Then, beginning July 7th, we will start our
Summer Sunday School program. There will be a special class for all the
kids, while the adults continue through their study on “In What Jesus
Said about Successful Living,” by Haddon Robinson, which uses the Sermon
on the Mount as a springboard to show why the life-changing principles
Jesus taught are the way to true happiness.

Firefighters Association 5K Road Race/Fun Walk
Time to put
on your running or walking shoes and register for the 2nd annual
Barnstead Firefighters Association 5K Road Race and Fun Walk on August
24 at 9am.
New this
year is a team category; prizes will be awarded to the first team of
four or more to finish.
The course
is an “out and back” that follows the Suncook River from the Parade to
the intersection with Rt. 126 and then returns to the Parade along the
same route for the Finish. The race course is USATF certified for
accuracy and is considered flat and fast. Refreshments will follow the
race along with a Fun Race for the Kids.
Pre-registration is $17 and must be received by August 16, 2013.

Alan K.
Davis
Alan K.
Davis, 58, of Barnstead, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Concord
Hospital.
Alan was
born, January 12, 1955 in Concord, N. H., the son of the late Ernest and
Virginia (Kelley) Davis. He grew up and lived in Barnstead his entire
life. He worked as Service Manager at M & M Ford in Epsom until he
opened his own garage in Barnstead. He was a volunteer firefighter in
his teenage years at the Parade Fire Department.
Alan
enjoyed spending time with his family and friends by the riverside and
he loved the beach. Alan will always be remembered for his big smile and
quick sense of humor. He was a generous, loyal, caring, compassionate
and clever man, always ready to help everyone. He was loved by all and
was known to many as a second dad. Alan was frequently seen with his
loyal companions, his dogs.
Members of
his family include his children; Colby Davis and Catherine St. Clair,
Megan and Adam Taylor and Shelby and Rhonda Davis; his former wife,
Linda Davis; his brother, Jerald Davis, and his sister, Holly Smith;
seven grandchildren, Alexis, Haley, Riley, Aiden, Lilly, Eli and Sammy;
one nephew, Derrick Smith; aunts and cousins and countless friends who
are like family.
Private
calling hours will be held.
A Graveside
Service will be on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Parade
Cemetery, Old Route 28, Barnstead, N.H.
