Master Plan Makeover In Barnstead
Did you know that Barnstead’s Master Plan helps guide financial
planning, budgets and expenditures in our town? Based on resident input,
it’s a rare opportunity for us to have a direct say in how our town
grows and how our tax money is spent.
The Barnstead Planning Board has just begun its periodic update of the
Master Plan. It will occur in stages. The first sections to be tackled
will be "Economic Development" and "Facilities & Public Transportation"
(including roads). Questionnaires, public meetings and online options
will give you a variety of ways to voice your opinions. Look for notices
toward the 2nd quarter of 2012. In the meantime, the Board’s Master Plan
Committee will be publishing additional articles with more details.
We’ll outline the contents of the Master Plan and provide helpful
information about the process.
The Barnstead Master Plan Committee meets every second Wednesday of the
month at 7:00 p.m. at the Parade Fire Station. Meetings are open to the
public, and you’re welcome to attend. If you have comments or questions,
you can email
[email protected] or call the Barnstead Town Hall.
Letter To The Editor
Dear Editor:
One of the most important issues in New Hampshire, indeed the country,
is sustainable agriculture. By that I mean locally grown fruits, nuts,
vegetables, grains and meats that are raised as organically as possible.
Something that folks may not think about is this; much of the produce
that arrives in our supermarkets is grown out-of-country. You know,
where there are few regulations and oversight. It has always been
interesting to me that our farmers are required to maintain very high
standards, while food that flows from our ports and across our borders
is mostly free from scrutiny. And remember, we are eating that stuff.
It is important that we in New Hampshire begin to build support for
local agriculture. We can start by buying fresh, locally grown produce
when we can. Locally grown produce is fresher, better and more
nutritious for us. A couple of by-products of your support is better
personal health for you and better financial health for your local
farmers. Sounds like a win-win situation to me.
Make the decision to support our local farmers this year. Thank you.

The Truth Project
In a 2003 study, the Barna Research Group revealed a stunning statistic
that continues to reverberate throughout the evangelical world – only
nine percent of professing Christians have a biblical world view.
Because of this, today’s believers live very similarly to non-believers.
A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced. As we spend our
money and time on things that fail to satisfy, we begin to wonder what
life’s ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our bearings
as a people and a nation. To counter this downward slide, The Truth
Project was launched.
The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 12
video lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This study is the starting
point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson
discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the
Christian worldview in daily life. As He has throughout history, God
continues to call ordinary people to make an eternal difference in our
world.
The Center Barnstead Christian Church invites you to be a part of this
study. Each session will involve a 50 minute video presentation followed
by a time of discussion. The study will begin on Sunday, February 12,
2012, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Center Barnstead Christian Church
which is located at the corner of Route 126 (South Barnstead Road) and
Shackford Corner Road (next to the Barnstead Town Hall). Child care is
available, please call the church to make arrangements. If you have any
questions, please contact Pastor Brian Gower or Ken Borgia at 269-8831.
American Legion
Auxiliary/Granite Girls State
Granite Girls State will be held the week of June 24 to June 30, 2012 at
Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, NH. High school girls who will
have completed their junior year will have the opportunity to spend a
week learning firsthand how their state and local government works while
having fun. This educational program which began in 1937, has continued
to grow and inspire with 49 states participating today. Two girls are
selected from each state program to attend Girls Nation, a national
government training program.
The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #42, of Barnstead would like to
sponsor a young woman to participate in this state wide program. More
information can be found on
