Barnstead Master Plan Committee To Mail Out Opinion Survey

Since early this summer, Barnstead’s volunteer Master Plan Committee, assisted by the Survey Center of the University of New Hampshire, has been creating an opinion survey that will be mailed to town residents and property owners later this fall.  The purpose is to gather public preferences and suggestions useful in the Master Plan process. Barnstead’s current plan expires this year and the new one will carry through to 2022.  The input of residents and property owners is vital to good community planning.

A public information meeting to review and polish the survey will be held November 14, 7:00 pm at the Barnstead Parade Fire Station. Draft copies will be available at the meeting.  Additional information about the Master Plan process is online at www.barnstead.org under “Town Business.”

Pancake Breakfast With Santa

Barnstead Parks and Rec will host a pancake breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 8:00 – 11:00 am at the Barnstead Town Hall.  Kids are invited to enjoy a hearty pancake breakfast, holiday crafts, and have their photo taken with Santa.  In the spirit of giving back, we will be collecting donations for the Barnstead Food Pantry and Toys for Tots. We’ll also be putting together a care package to our troops from the children of Barnstead.  

For the care package, we’re looking for baby wipes, white socks, shaving cream, and food items including cookies (homemade are most appreciated), beef jerky, and nuts. Each child will have the chance to make a card, which will be enclosed in the package.  

Parks and Rec would also greatly appreciate the loan or donation of holiday decorations including garland, string lights, tree decorations, fun inflatables, etc. to make the space festive.  We’d love to park a sleigh outside too, if anyone has one to lend for a day.

In addition to our holiday planning, Parks and Rec is also looking for a volunteer or two to run a learn-to-skate program for kids at the town skating rink over the winter.

Finally, coming soon are a kids dance class, a kids-fun-with-music class, and Zumba for adults.  Check Facebook or the Parks and Rec page on the Town website for more information as details are finalized.  We have lots of program ideas, and always welcome thoughts and feedback from the community by email or at our monthly meetings. Volunteers are needed to assist with adult programs, including outing clubs, game nights and more. We look forward to hearing from our neighbors.  All volunteer efforts are truly appreciated, and we thank you.

“Fancy Nancy Tea Party” 

At Barnstead Library

The Oscar Foss Memorial Library would like to invite the children and families of Barnstead to our second annual “Fancy Nancy Tea Party!” on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 10:00 am. Everyone should bring their favorite teacup and, of course, dressing-up in your ‘Fancy Nancy finest’ is always the best part! A light snack and beverage will be provided by the library, as well as some other fabulous fun and surprises! 

Our seating is limited, so please call 269-3900 or come by the desk to reserve your place as soon as possible. 

Give A Helping Hand

Once again this year, the Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Center Barnstead will have a fine free period for December and January and ask that you bring in a non-perishable item for our food pantry boxes.

We are extending this from last year and accepting items not only during December but also right through January as we are hoping this will encourage people to not only give during the major holidays, but generally help in the winter as well.

Lots of items can be brought in, but we do ask that you make sure that they are non-perishable and In Date. We don’t want to pass along items that can no longer be used. Some items to consider are pasta, pasta sauces, rice, any canned goods or pre-packed meals, shampoo, toothpaste, soap, or any other unopened, in-date toiletries.

So if you have overdue items in December or January... Just help out the food pantry and bring in something for our boxes. You certainly don’t need to have overdue materials to help out... Please feel free to just add to the boxes. We will have someone from the food pantry pick them up on a regular basis and during these especially hard economic times, we know that all of our items will go to a good cause.

The patrons of the Oscar Foss Memorial Library have been extremely generous in the past and we are counting on you to give a helping hand to those in need. We know you are giving and caring people so we thank you in advance!

Gospel Rescue Missions In North America Vice President

Perry Jones To Speak At CBCC

Perry Jones will be speaking at the Center Barnstead Christian Church this Sunday, November 18th.  Perry and his wife, Susan, live in Ravena, New York.  Perry is the Vice President of the 300 member Association of Gospel Rescue Missions in North America.  

In 1982, Perry became the new executive director of Capital City Rescue Mission in Albany, New York. There he developed a discipleship/rehabilitation program, which soon began to serve large numbers of people. Susan also works at the mission as the director of development. This mission was founded in December of 1949 to offer hope and to extend the compassion of Christ by providing food, clothing, shelter and gospel services to the homeless and destitute of Albany.

Capital City Rescue Mission is dedicated to proclaiming the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ to the homeless and needy of the capital region. Providing for the whole person, body, mind and spirit, that they will return to society maturing in Christ as productive citizens. This has now become the largest shelter in the city. Presently, over 100 individuals are sheltered there each night, and over 300 meals served each day. This Friday and Saturday Perry will also be speaking at a Prison Fellowship Seminar at the Concord State Prison.

Jean E. Stapleford

Jean E. (Merrill) Stapleford, 82, a long time resident of Northwood and Barnstead, died Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Hospice House in Concord.

Born in Northwood on December 5, 1929, Jean was the daughter of Robert and Marion (Evans) Merrill. She graduated from Coe-Brown Academy and worked at Billy’s Restaurant in Epsom for at least 10 years and at Market Basket in Concord before her retirement.

Jean was the widow of Walter Stapleford and is survived by two sons, James Stapleford of Kempner, TX and John Stapleford of Seattle, WA; 3 daughters, Carol Gadwah and Linda Stapleford, both of Concord, and Cathy Stapleford; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter; a sister, Joyce Creighton of Northwood; a brother, John Merrill of Pigeon Forge, TN; and nieces and nephews. Jean was also predeceased by a sister, Barbara Cimon.
