Barnstead Library Ends Summer Reading Program

Our Summer Reading Program at the Oscar Foss Memorial Library officially ended with a fascinating show of “Reptiles on the Move!”  The exciting trainer and all her animal friends kept our audience of 70 spellbound with ninety minutes of wild and interactive fun!  This program was supported by a grant from the NH State Library, The Byrne Foundation, CHILIS, the Cogswell Benevolent Trust, and the NH Library Association.

This year we had 102 children who participated in our “One World, Many Stories” Reading Program, with 76 children completing the program.  Each week as the children recorded their books at the library, they added a sticker to our giant map of the world poster, received a prize and a raffle ticket for our three baskets.  At registration, the children received a paper boy or girl to decorate and bring back for us to display.  We encouraged them to make kids from other countries and we received a wonderful variety of countries.  The children were very creative and really seemed to enjoy the activity.  Congratulations to all our participants this summer, you are all great readers!  Thanks to all the parents and guardians who made it possible for the children to participate and complete the program, you are an important part of making this program a success.

We were also very pleased to have 45 adults participate in our Adult Summer Reading Program this year!  When a book was completed the individual received a raffle ticket for our special “relaxation basket.” Thank you to all who participated and we hope you enjoyed your books!

Reading Program certificates and awards were presented during the ending program show.  If you have not received yours, please come to the library to pick it up.
