Noted Genealogist To Appear At The Barnstead Historical Society
Getting
Started In Genealogy- and not falling out of the family tree will be the
topic of a talk that will be given by David Allen Lambert on October 9
at the Barnstead Town Hall. A pot luck dinner will start at 6 o’clock
with Mr. Lambert’s talk at 7 o’clock.
Mr.
Lambert is the online genealogist for the New England Historic
Genealogical Society. He has published articles in The New England
Historical and Genealogical Register, the New Hampshire Genealogical
Record; Rhode Island Roots; The Mayflower Descendant; and New England
Ancestors magazine. He has published a bestselling book on cemeteries in
Massachusetts, entitled A Guide to Cemeteries in Massachusetts and three
histories and genealogical references relating to his hometown of
Stoughton, Massachusetts.
Recently he was a major contributor to the publication The Last Muster
published by Kent State University.
Mr.
Lambert’s genealogical expertise includes specialties in New England and
Atlantic Canadian research, military records, and Native American and
African American genealogical research. He has appeared on numerous
radio and national and local television shows, including the PBS-TV show
History Detectives. He is the host of a local public access television
talk show, devoted to capturing the stories of the U.S. Military
veterans of the town of Stoughton, Massachusetts. It should be noted
that Mr. Lambert has Avery, Lougee, and Pitman ancestors that lived in
Barnstead.
Included in his talk will be information on getting started in
genealogy, pitfalls in research, and, also, modern DNA ancestral
investigations. If you are new to genealogical studies, an expert, or
just interested in local history, Mr. Lambert’s talk will have something
that will be appealing.
Letter To The Editor
To The
Editor:
The true test will come with the winter thaw, but in the
meantime the residents of Lake Shore Drive in Barnstead would like to
express appreciation to the town’s Road Agent Chris Carazzo and his crew
for a job well done.
In
response to concerns raised earlier in the summer about drainage
problems that we were afraid were having a detrimental effect on Suncook
Lake, Mr. Carazzo recently oversaw a series of improvements to Lake
Shore Drive and Sunset Drive.
For the
past month, you could just about set your watch at 6:30 a.m. that Mr.
Carazzo would be going by in his truck surveying the work and planning
the goals and jobs to be accomplished each day. We wish to salute Mr.
Carazzo and his crew for their commitment to the project during a long,
hot, month and note their credibility as an agency of the town of
Barnstead.
The
road improvements were made to correct a serious problem from runoff
from Sunset Drive and Lake Shore Drive causing environmental damage to
lower Suncook Lake. In a period of six years, the lake was deteriorating
rapidly filling with silt, causing the growth of grass and weeds, and
contributing to the slowing down of the Suncook Lake Association’s fight
against milfoil.
We want
to thank Mr. Carazzo for implementing his plan to stop the road erosion
that was occurring whenever we had a heavy rain. He should be
commended by the selectmen and thanked for a job completed with
professionalism. The residents of Lake Shore Drive and members of the
Suncook Lake Association wish to thank Mr. Carazzo and his crew for the
improvements that will help protect the lake.
Sincerely,
The Residents Of Lake Shore Drive

Letter To The Editor
Dear
Editor:
Life as you well know is a tough proposition at times. We
live in a world where there is pain, suffering, hardship, and trouble.
Yet we have within ourselves power. When trouble strikes, imagine
friends, neighbors, and the public at large helping each other.
Lanie,
who is fifteen (15) months old, and fighting for her life, from a
debilitating illness: Splenic Sequestration (Sickle Cell anemia).
A
person, with sickle cell anemia, is likely to have the symptoms of
anemia (due to destruction of red blood cells or platelet deficiency),
and therre is sometimes a decrease in resistance to infection due to
lack of white cells, which is often fatal.
Treatment of Splenic Sequestration requires Splenectomy (surgical
removal of the spleen).
Lanie
is scheduled for a Splenectomy very soon to reverse her life threatening
condition. Her parents, Jackie and Troy will appreciate any and all help
- financially and spiritually to save their daughter; vessels for
financial donations are spread throughout the community, with her
picture on them. Donations can be made at Northway Banks, under the name
Lanie Goodwin. Please be as generous as you can.
Please
direct any and all questions to Jackie or Troy at 603-717-1991.
Thank
you and may God Bless you.

Local Business Owners Attending Fall Frenzy To Help Kick Off
Fall
As NH
residents hear from the federal economic department that the recession
is over, 35+ local small business owners are attending the Fall Frenzy
at Alton Central School this Saturday, Oct. 2nd from 10-2 to let local
people know what businesses are available in the Lakes Region Area.
Historically, business grows as recessions recover and this time it is
no different. Many owners when faced with layoffs or reduced hours
decided to supplement their income with their passions. The Fall
Frenzy, organized this year by Deb Snell, a Tastefully Simple consultant
and a long time Alton resident, is a way for people to visit and
meet many of the cottage industries that are in the surrounding areas
all in one convenient stop.
Also
available Saturday will be an Alton PTSO raffle (with an item from every
demonstrator donated) to help provide services and programs for Alton
Central Students and a bake sale to benefit the Gilmanton-Barnstead
Fire/Rescue Explorers.
The
Frenzy will be in the gymnasium of the elementary school and will
coincide with an event in the back field for younger folks with face
painting and many other fun activities. Guest can expect to see a wide
variety of businesses from home party companies with cash & carry
merchandise and holiday specials to local crafters and artists. Also on
hand will be local children’s author Lane Case and gem faceter Martha
Martell. For additional information or a list of the
scheduled presenters call Deb Snell at 875-1380. Alton Central
School is located at 41 School Street Alton NH.
