Reminder
Benefit Spaghetti Supper


On Monday, February 15, 2010, (snow date of Thursday, February 18th) community members are organizing a spaghetti supper at the Barnstead Elementary School Gym to benefit the Phil Grillo family.


There will be four seatings on the hour beginning at 4:00 p.m., 5:00p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.


Cost: Adults, $5.00 and Children, $3.00.


Tickets may be purchased at the Barnstead Elementary School office in advance or at the door.



 

2010 Artist Showcase At Barnstead Library


The Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Center Barnstead announces a yearlong 2010 Artist Showcase displaying the artwork created by a group of local New Hampshire artists. We are currently featuring oil paintings by Eleanor Graham of Concord through February, followed by Pam Smith of Loudon with watercolors in March, Pat Davis of Pembroke with acrylic “themes in nature and cosmos” in April, Dr. Roger M. Beattie of Center Barnstead with oils in May, Scott Bulger of Northwood with photography in June, Susan Hagner of Concord with watercolors in September, Dick Pratt and Frank Curatolo of Chichester with oils and acrylics in October, and Judy Doughty of Nottingham wrappings up the showcase with pastels and watercolors in November. The display resides in the main section of the library and features different artwork each month. Please come by to view the artwork, sign the guest book, and vote for your favorites. OFML Joins Cut The Carbon Campaign


The Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Center Barnstead has partnered with NH public libraries in providing patrons with the use of CUT THE CARBON kill-O-Watt meters and usage materials as part of an energy saving campaign sponsored by nhsaves. These kits provide patrons with a method to measure the energy usage of appliances in the home, and also gives steps to save on electric usage and to reduce carbon footprints. We are pleased to be a part of this program to save energy, save money and help the environment.

 


 

Lakes Region Soccer  Club Spring Teams To Hold Registrations


Lakes Region Soccer Club Spring teams will be holding on line registrations this year. Teams will play home games at the Nick in Wolfeboro on weekends. The following area students have recently graduated from NHTI- Concord’s Community College:


Barnstead: Erika Shoukimas, Diploma in Practical Nursing; Bradford Bentley, Degree of Associate in Arts in Visual Arts; Jacob Browning, Degree of Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts.


Chichester: Amy Edmonds, Degree of Associate in Science with a Major in Education.
Epsom: Michael Rudolph, Degree of Associate in Science with a Major in Criminal Justice; Michael Scarlett, Diploma in Practical Nursing; Kyle Smith, Degree of Associate in Science in General Studies.


Gilmanton: Anthony Bailey, Degree of Associate in Science in General Studies.


Northwood: Justine Wheeler, Degree of Associate in Science with a Major in Health Science.

 


 

Calling All Men!


Center Barnstead Christian Church is hosting a free Men’s Breakfast Saturday, February 13th from 7:30-8:30 AM. All men are invited to come and enjoy breakfast and hear from the guest speaker, Kevin Smith.


Kevin has served as a state representative to the New Hampshire Legislature from 1996-1998, earning the Christian Coalition’s “Pro-Family” House Member of the Year honor in 1998. He worked on staff for former United States Senator, Bob Smith, and former New Hampshire Governor, Craig Benson. He currently serves as the Executive Director for Cornerstone Policy Research.


Kevin and his wife, Suzy, reside in Litchfield, NH, with their three children.

BYBA will be conducting signups for all players at the below times and places:
• March 1st (Mon.),  Barnstead Public Library,                   6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Please park near the ice rink versus the library parking lot.
• March 13th (Sat.),  Barnstead Elementary School, 9:00 a.m.-Noon.
• March 20th (Sat.),  Barnstead Elementary School, 9:00 a.m.-Noon.
*Signups after March 20th will be considered late and subject to the late fee.

 

If you have not returned your child’s uniform from last year, please plan to drop it off at one of the above-mentioned timeslots.

Obituaries


 

Mary M. Thorne


Barnstead N.H. – Mary M. Thorne, 79, died at home on Saturday, January 30th after a long illness. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, William J. Thorne, on February 18th, 2009.


Mary was born in New York City, N.Y. and spent her youth in Bloomfield, N.J. where she attended public schools and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1947. She was the daughter of the late Robert P. March and June McWilliams March.


Mary attended Radcliffe College, graduating in 1951. She was awarded a Master’s Degree in Education from Framingham State College in Massachusetts in 1965. She taught grammar school for twenty years in the town of Franklin, MA. retiring in 1985. She was a long time member of the Federated Baptist Congregational Church in Franklin.


Upon moving to Barnstead, Mary joined the Friends of the Barnstead Library where she held the position of Treasurer. She was a hospice volunteer for several years. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Mary was active in her retirement, walking the roads near her home daily and playing tennis. She attended the Parade Congregational Church of Barnstead where she received great comfort.

 
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Coffin and her husband, Richard of Blackstone, MA., her son, Robert Thorne and his wife, Stefanie of Franklin, MA. and 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Coffin of Arlington, MA., Laurel Coffin of Arlington, MA., Dale Coffin of Edgewater, FL, Erika Thorne of Franklin, MA, and Lilli Thorne of Franklin, MA.


There are no calling hours. A private service will be held at the discretion of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s name to the Hospice House of Concord, NH.
