Adventures in Hungary

This Sunday, July 6th during the 10:30 A.M. Morning Service, Charlie and PJ Bolstridge will be giving a "live" update about their nine months in Hungary.

The Bolstridge Family, along with their three children took off for Hungary in September 2007. They went to the Word of Life Institute to study Bible for a year. During their stay, they learned many lessons some of which they will be sharing with us. Come and join us at the Center Barnstead Christian Church to hear more.

Remember, this Sunday we are also kicking off our Summer Sunday School program at 9:30 A.M. All ages are encouraged to attend. If you have any questions, please call the church at 269-8831.

Barnstead Parks And Recreation Summer Concert Series

The Summer Concerts continue with the sounds of "Kid pinky and His Restless Knights" performing this Saturday, July 5th from 6-8pm at the Parade Bandstand.

Kid Pinky and His Restless Knights is a new, exciting and highly entertaining four piece blues band embodying a retro style that is at the same time authentic and refreshing.

Kid Pinky presents a very exciting format for vocalist, harpist, and the piano man "Pinky", who was founder and leader of The Movers.

Accompanied by three highly talented bluesman from the Concord, NH area, Kid Pinky and His Restless Knights are a throwback to a more pure and simple kind of blues. The show is fun; Pinky and the Knights always make you feel like you are experiencing a private performance in your own living room. So if you like blues, then expect a fun-filled evening.

Remember, this concert is FREE and open to the public; no alcohol is allowed. Bring your family, friends and a lawn chair or blanket. See you there!

Letter

Dear Jack O'Neil,

The citizens of Barnstead owe you a debt of gratitude for your outstanding service to our community at the food pantry and as a selectman throughout the years; we also owe you a debt of gratitude for your service in Vietnam.

As a citizen who voted for you several times, I write this out of the greatest respect for you in response to your letter in last week's Sun.

COBALD is admirable and I agree that our number one priority should be to protect our water from those who would pump us dry. We need a common sense ordinance that will stop that idea cold! I believe in a protected eco-system, managed with realistic and reasonable mainstream policies, untainted by political action groups, corporations and special interests.

The Barnstead Water Ordinance was passed in March. What we needed was a solid ordinance that protected the water; what we got was politically charged, cleverly crafted language awarding "civil rights to ecosystems" and other extreme agenda.

We live in a Republic, not a pure Democracy. Rhetoric like "We the People" and a "Living Democracy" sounds lofty, but the "self rule" agenda is a political movement reminiscent of the 1930's .

Informed citizens should visit www.celdf.org or: www.thealliancefordemocracy.org to see the goals of this radical movement.

We have the opportunity to welcome a "green" company into Barnstead which will provide employment for many residents and much needed tax revenue. Many of the framers of the water ordinance are already attempting to use it to delay this process. If not a "green" company, then what will these folks support?

Any approach from an extreme position does not serve the interests of Barnstead. We to be `corporation' friendly. Plain and simple, the `self rule' movement is anti-business and anti-corporation.
